Subaru automatic shift knob removal3/8/2024 ![]() Work backwards and reinstall everything in the reverse order of removal. Ensure that the plastic piece snaps in properly. The biggest pain in this process is to remove the 6 remainin connectors:ġ1. Remove the old boot and remove plastic piece for the shift indicator.ġ3. Install new boot. Slowly start to lift the rear portion of the silver trim. Remove the two bolts from the console under the e-brake.ġ0. Place shifter into Neutral. This boot is held in place by 4 clip fasteners.ĩ. Pull straight up on the emergency brake boot. Remove the 2 bolts that were under the trim plate.Ĩ. Unplug the connector and set the trim plate aside.ħ. It just snaps on to the console but it is plastic so be careful. Remove the 4 Torx screws in the center console lid.Ħ. Pry up on the rear of the trim plate holding the air bag warning light (or F55 selector button). (during this step, you will feel like you are breaking something.just keep pulling straight up!)ĥ. Grab the shift knob and place one hand over the top, and begin pulling upward hard and working it alternately clockwise and counterclockwise very sightly. You'll need to feed these wires back through the knob in step 4, and they won't fit if the plastic cover is still on the spade connectors.ģ. Ok I finally got the stock knob off You were right that was a real pain getting off. On the sifter, remove the top plastic trim piece and remove shift button from handle. Once the plate is lowered you can remove the two screws and lift up on the shifter. Disconnect the wires from the switch and push the wires back into the knob. Pull the two corners toward the back of the car and press DOWN on the silver plate (20). If one has plastic insulator, cut it away, but leave the spade. There are 2 wires attached to the switch with spade connectors. Grab the overdrive button on the side of the shift knob with a pair of needle-nose pliers and gently work the switch out of the side of the knob.Ģ. Got it!
